The 2026 edition of the Super Cup is being played at the Stadion Salzburg on Wednesday, August 12 — the first time the fixture has been staged in Austria.
The one-off match kicks off the European season proper, arriving just days before most leagues resume and roughly two weeks before the Champions League league-phase draw on August 27.
PSG Arrive as Back-to-Back Champions
Luis Enrique's side needed a penalty shootout to beat Arsenal in the 2026 Champions League final in Budapest, retaining the trophy they won the year before and completing back-to-back European titles.
It's PSG's third appearance in the Super Cup: they lost the 1996 final, then beat Tottenham to win it last year. A win in Salzburg would be their first-ever Super Cup defense.
Aston Villa Return to the Super Cup After 44 Years
Unai Emery's Aston Villa thrashed Freiburg 3-0 in Istanbul on May 20 to win their first-ever Europa League title — a result that also handed the club its first European trophy since the 1982 European Cup, when they beat Bayern Munich in Rotterdam.
That 1982 title is exactly what sent them to their only other Super Cup appearance, which they also won, beating Barcelona. Wednesday is their shot at a second.
