Man City's First Champions League Game Since the Guilty Verdict — Hosting PSG

Manchester City's Matchday 2 clash with PSG is a blockbuster on the pitch regardless of context — but it also happens to be City's first Champions League match since an independent commission ruled against them on the vast majority of English football's biggest-ever financial misconduct case.
The Verdict
On September 29, an independent commission found Manchester City guilty on 114 of the 115 charges relating to breaches of the Premier League's financial rules between 2009 and 2018 — including using what the league described as "sham" commercial contracts to artificially inflate revenue and disguise over £830m in additional ownership funding. City is understood to be preparing an appeal; no sanction has been set yet, with that decided at a separate hearing.
Back on the Pitch, Against the Reigning Champions
None of that changes what happens on the pitch at the Etihad on October 14: City host PSG, who opened their Champions League title defense with a 6-1 rout of Slovan Bratislava on Matchday 1. City themselves beat Porto 2-0 away in their own opener, Erling Haaland's header the difference.
A Record Chase on the Same Night
Haaland arrives at this exact fixture already past a two-decade-old Champions League scoring record — one more reason the on-pitch story at the Etihad is drawing as much attention as the verdict's fallout.
