Lens 0-2 Sporting CP: Luis Suárez and Doumbia Punish a Toothless Lens
Sporting CP bounced back from their opening-day defeat in style, beating Lens 2-0 away at a packed Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Tuesday, October 13, with Luis Suárez and Ivan Doumbia on the scoresheet either side of a cagey hour of football.
Suárez Breaks the Deadlock
The game was goalless and tight for the opening 22 minutes until Luis Suárez poked Sporting in front, finishing off a move started by substitute-to-be Nuno Irankunda. Lens pushed for an equalizer either side of half-time but couldn't find a way past a well-organized Sporting defense.
Doumbia Doubles the Lead Late On
Ivan Doumbia made it 2-0 in the 74th minute, converting after good work from Sebastián Andersen down the left. Lens, down to two bookings for Michaël Cuisance and Florian Thauvin, never looked like finding a way back into the game, and Sporting saw out a comfortable second win of the league phase.
